The Pumpkin seeds are starting to germimate but the seedlings are yet to pop out of the ground. We have had quite a bit of rain and the seedling should be out next week.

Other Garden Happenings

Strawberries

Strawberries are growing in the strawberry patch, Grandpa ate the first ripe strawberry this growing season.

Tomatoes and Peppers

The tomatoes and peppers are growing well in the garden at Grandpa and Grandma's house and at two community garden plots. There are 55 tomato plants (35 varieties) and 28 pepper plants (11 varieties).

The tomatoes vary in size from the Candland Current tomato being the size of a pea to the Beefmaster tomato growing up to a pound. The tomatoes also come in all different colors: red, orange, yellow, pink and some even striped.

The peppers are both sweet and spicy hot. The peppers also come in different colors: red, orange, green, and yellow.

Around the tomatoes and peppers are pots with the bottom cut out. These pots are needed to protect the tender plants from the harsh South Dakota wind. Straw is spread around the plants to help keep the soil wet and to keep the weeds away.

Roses

Two winters ago Grandma's roses were eaten down to the ground by rabbits. Now the roses have come back and blooms profusely.
