Seven of the eight pumpkins planted have sprouted. Jarrahdale (blue) pumpking was the first one to sprout. Big Moon has not sprouted yet and Grandma will plant a few more of those seeds to make sure that pumpkin will sprout. Straw has now been spread around the pumpkins to keep the soil warm and prevent weeds.
Other Garden Happenings
Beans! Beans! Beans!
Grandma is growing two types of beans - Blue Lake Pole Green beans and Cranberry dried beans. Both will grow up trellises.
Carrots and Beets
One "L" shaped raised bed is full of Carrots and Beets. There are four varieties of carrots - 2 are orange, 1 is red and 1 is purple. There are three varieties of beets - all are red.
Animals in the Garden
Grandma likes most animals in the garden including toads. Can you find the toad in the picture? Toads eat lots of insects, including mosquitoes, slugs, and snails.

However, Grandma does not like rabbits. The rabbits love to eat the leaves of flowers and so much at times that it will kill the plant. Here are a few flowers that the rabbits nibbled on in Grandma's garden.
To keep the rabbits away, Grandma sprinkles smelly granules around the plants. The strong small keeps the rabbits away. Grandma and Grandpa also trap the rabbits. We use apples for bait. The rabbits love apples. Here is a rabbit we trapped. Grandpa then takes the cage with the rabbit to the country and releases the rabbit. Then the rabbit can roam around free without harming Grandma's garden.
